3D Flower Workshop with Corinne Young Textile Artist - Saturday 24th February 2018
Saturday 24th February 2018 10am - 4pm
We are delighted to welcome textile Artist Corinne Young to Needle & Thread! Taking her inspiration from flowers and insects, Corinne’s brightly coloured 3D textile art uses a combination of handmade linen paper and vintage materials. She employs both hand and free machine embroidery with a variety of sculpting techniques including stiffeners, stumpwork and wire. (Corinne's work pictured includes Auricula Theature, Purple Poppy and Insect Collection).
In this workshop, Corinne will teach you how to make 3D embroidered flowers, incorporating stumpwork methods. The completed flowers can be put onto stems to display in a vase, or can be used to decorate hats & head-dressses or other accessories.
On this workshop taking fine linen and cotton fabrics you will create your flowers using a hand and machine stitch, paint, embroidery and embellishment.
Please bring along with you some flower pictures and flowers to inspire your work (although don't worry if you can't some will be available at the studio for you). You might also like to bring a sketchbook if you have one.
Equipment will be provided, (sewing machines embroidery hoops, paintbrushes), and materials (florists wire, tape, stuffing, fabric paints, fabrics) however if you were able to bring a hair dryer along this would be useful!
Ability level: All levels
INCLUDED: All materials and equipment provided a lovely homemade lunch, cake and refreshments to keep you well fuelled through out the day!
Corinne is textile artist from the UK. I create embroidered 3D artwork, bespoke furnishings and accessories.
My work is inspired by two major things – the flowers and insects I study in my garden, and the artefacts to be found in historic houses. The floral aspect gives my work its colour, texture and form, and the methods I use, the style of the work and its 3D quality comes from the study of historic artefacts such as 17th century stump work caskets. I like to use vintage fabrics and papers to create my work, and also love to stitch into my handmade linen paper, which I make in large sheets in my studio.
The finished artworks are delicate in feel and reflect the complexity and fragility of their subject matter. All pieces are designed, made, constructed and finished by me. Everything I produce is made with great care, and takes many hours to create.
